Inpatient Support Group

Most of our patients being treated for cancer or blood disorders experience frequent and lengthy hospitalizations during the course of their treatment.Being away from home and confined to a hospital room can be quite difficult for patients and families alike.

Our center is fortunate to have an inpatient hematology/oncology unit equipped with a wonderful play area and a parent room that is connected to a kitchen and equipped with a telephone, television and a computer.

These amenities offer our patients and their parents the opportunity to spend time out of the hospital room to play and relax, yet remain on the unit close to their room and the medical staff.

Every Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., the members of our psychosocial team provide activities for the patients and a support group for the parents. The Child Life Specialist engages the patients in an activity of their choice while the parents enjoy refreshments and visit with each other in a group led by the Psychologist or Social Worker.

Please contact Dr. Ben Jones, Amy Bowers, or Pam Broughton with any questions regarding the parent support group.
